Therapists for college students near University of Texas at Austin
I work with women of all ages struggling with life transitions, depression, anxiety, PTSD, attachment issues, and codependency. In the therapy world, a big focus is often on the client learning to trust the therapist and building a strong therapeutic relationship. While I agree this is an essential catalyst for growth, I also believe it is equally important for the client to learn to trust themselves. I focus on empowering my clients to understand how their past experiences have impacted their current relationships, with self and others, and how they can change these patterns. I am a trained EMDR therapist and I utilize this evidence-based treatment to help my clients heal from emotional distress caused by trauma and adverse life experiences. I also specialize in Client Centered Therapy, Attachment Therapy, The Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. My clients and I collaborate on which approach is best for them and their goals. This work includes examining past experiences to make sense of current maladaptive patterns, practicing mindfulness, learning new skills, and examining client values and goals for future relationships. My goal is for my clients to feel empowered and able to view themselves with self-compassion and trust they have the capacity for change.
Hello! My name is Maddie and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker here in Texas. I practice predominantly in psychotic disorders, psychosis and mood disorders. I specialize in mental health and trauma working with individuals struggling with moderate to severe sexual trauma, historical trauma and childhood trauma. I cultivate a space of honest and difficult conversations. Creating an environment of emotional healing and nonjudgment. My motto is “You can leave the mask at the door, because even underneath the mask we are all still human and bleed just the same”.
You don’t have to carry it all alone. Hi, I’m Charlie. I work with teens and adults who feel stuck between cultures, expectations, and their own voice. Together, we’ll navigate anxiety, academic stress, OCD, and self-harm patterns in a way that feels grounding, real, and figureoutable.
I work well with clients who want to learn skills to cope with what they're going through as well as get to the root of the issues. As a therapist I am warm, flexible, and seek to create a brave space in which clients can bring their full selves to the room. While my focus has been trauma and trauma treatments, most of my clients are coming in for help with understanding the role their families have in their lives and changing relationships. Many of my clients are navigating how to be in relationship with parents who have different values and experiences, or maybe don't understand how their actions and choices have impacted my clients. Some topics I work with clients on include: anxiety, stress, perfectionism, over achieving, negative childhood or family experiences, and issues around identity. Some of my clients want to learn concrete skills for managing where they are at in their lives, while others want to get into the depths around who they are and why they do what they do. For both I show up consistently as a sounding board who provides gentle and often direct feedback.
Despite your best effort you feel weighed down or worried, and you are not making the progress you expected. You need a space where your worries, faith, and cultural experiences are all taken seriously — so you can start moving through life with increased clarity, peace and capacity. Through evidence-based therapy integrated with Christian principles, I help professionals reduce anxiety, recover from burnout, and show up more effectively in work and relationships that matter most. Reaching out takes courage — and it is one of the most supportive and strategic decisions you can make for yourself. You were made for more than surviving. I would be honored to support your journey. Clients that I see in my practice are frequently struggling with life transition, academic stress, family concerns, and issues in their interpersonal relationships, all while trying to succeed as students. I also work with many clients either diagnosed with ADHD (or suspecting that they have it) who are seeking support to improve functioning. My practice is also LGBTQ+ affirming and welcoming.
My approach as a therapist is simple- I'm here to help you recognize the parts of yourself that you're proud of and change the parts you want to be different. Trust me, there is no problem too big or too small to bring to therapy! My clients have usually included people who have been marginalized by socio-economic barriers, people who have experienced trauma, and those with autism or other types of neurodivergence, or developmental disabilities. Since these issues can make life especially tough in new and different ways during college and the transition to adulthood, I've found that this stage of life can be the perfect time to seek out some help. Although I have a lot of experience working with ages 12-18, I'm also passionate about providing therapy to adults throughout the lifespan. I believe that a comfortable working relationship between you and your therapist is so important for you to fully access your resilience to heal and be empowered to achieve your goals. I'll always encourage you to give me honest feedback to ensure that sessions are supportive and meet your specific needs. Sessions with me will always be judgement free zones where authenticity and vulnerability are highly valued. Whether that sounds well within or far outside your comfort zone, I'd love to meet to answer any questions you have and to see if we might be a good fit. In a few weeks, you could be unstuck from what’s holding you back. Let’s get started. If you’ve never been in therapy, I’ll make this easy. If you're coming back, I’ll honor what you already know. We’ll get to know each other and understand what you'd like to change. During our sessions, you will always be the expert in how your life works, and I’ll share with you a research-based approach to creating mental health. We'll work toward goals as a team, in a process that fits your unique background (e.g., race, ethnicity, gender, sex, sexual orientation identity, religious affiliation); respecting your values is important to me. I use treatments that we know work. These therapies not only help you overcome problems you’re experiencing right now, but I’ll teach you skills to resolve future problem that might come your way, too. While handling emotions in a new way might feel strange, I’ll be there to walk you through the process. I completed a Ph.D. in counseling psychology at the University of Utah, and fellowship in trauma psychology at the South Texas VA. I live in San Antonio, Texas, where I am a professor at the University of Texas School of Medicine. In my free time, I love fitness and exploring small Texas towns. College can be one of the most exciting seasons of life — but also one of the most overwhelming. Between academic pressure, anxiety, relationships, family expectations, burnout, and trying to “have it all together,” many students silently struggle while appearing fine on the outside. I provide a supportive, judgment-free space where college students can pause, breathe, and focus on their mental wellness without pressure or shame. My approach is warm, relatable, and collaborative, helping students build healthy coping skills, improve self-confidence, manage stress, and navigate life transitions with clarity and balance. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem challenges, or simply feeling emotionally exhausted, you don’t have to carry it alone. Therapy can be a place where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to thrive both personally and academically.
I earned a Master of Science in Nursing degree specializing in Psychiatry from The University of Texas at Arlington. I am proud to say I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I am a true believer that not one of my fellow humans is immune to stress, anxiety, and feelings of sadness at some point in their life. We all find ourselves feeling vulnerable at times. It is completely normal to question why we feel the emotions that we do, why we seem to fall apart at times, and better yet, how we can get through it all in one beautiful piece. I think the first step to meaningful recovery from anxiety, depression, complex mental illness, and/or substance use is to reach out and ask for help. It is a difficult, but very brave action. I am not one to judge, look down on, question your past experiences, or current situation. I am very good at rationally breaking down a situation and I can offer practical advice and medication suggestions depending on your goal in mind. Most people who contact me are dealing with a relationship that feels stuck. The same argument keeps coming back, trust has been damaged, or they are trying to make sense of what happened. I work with couples and with individual adults dealing with betrayal, trauma, anxiety, relationship patterns, and questions involving faith or religious harm. My style is steady and direct. I want us to understand what is happening and decide what needs to change outside the session. Therapy is entirely online for clients in Florida, Texas, Utah, and Arizona.

Many of the people I work with seem to have spent a fair amount of time wondering if they are somehow doing "being a person" incorrectly. The overthinkers. The deep feelers. The people who have always felt a little different. A little out of step. Or like everyone else received instructions they themselves somehow missed. Some are navigating trauma, anxiety, life transitions, or questions about who they are and how they want to move through the world. Many have spent a long time trying to make sense of things on their own. Therapy is not a place where you need to arrive polished, certain, or put together. It is a place where curiosity is welcome, questions are welcome, and most importantly, you are welcome. P.S. Consider this your official welcome to the Human Being Club. Your unpolished, un-edited pages are honored here.
