Currently accepting new clients who live in Texas! You’re exhausted and worn out from the daily tasks of life and the emotions that feel all too heavy right now. You find yourself losing track of time, endlessly scrolling through the internet just to take your mind off things. You crave connection with those around you, but the heaviness of your emotions makes you feel like you’re a burden to those closest to you. On the inside, you battle with thoughts of all the ways that you do not measure up, and the feeling of never being good enough. You worry if people really want to be your friend and know you for you. The feelings of anxiety and loneliness feel closest to you. You are usually the one to put others first, but you worry if people really see you and know you for you. You crave authentic connection and a space to be heard, seen, and accepted for who you truly are, and not what others expect you to be. You want to belong, to vulnerably share life with friends and family, to love and be loved without fear. You’ve tried figuring out things on your own and even dab in the latest self-help trend, but you have found that it’s not working as you had imagined. You are used to being self-sufficient and sorting out things on your own, but you have come to realize that you need help. It takes courage to ask for help, we are not meant to do life alone but are made for connection. You see this, you know this, you seek this. I understand that hesitancy can accompany the idea of therapy, so I prioritize creating a safe and trusting space that allows you to come out of hiding and show up as yourself, as you feel seen and heard to process your thoughts and emotions. During our time together we will explore your story and the deeper meanings and root causes of your pain, childhood experiences, difficult thoughts, and behavior patterns. Through a lens of curiosity, you will gain greater insight and new tools to bring about the change that you have been desiring. Sessions with me are filled with compassion, warmth, non-judgment, and authenticity. I want to help you reconnect with yourself and leave those worries behind, so you can live a more peaceful life. Christian counseling is available for clients requesting it. Together, we will get you to a place where you are able to show up as yourself in relationships, meaningfully connect with those around you, to enjoy the life that you are currently living. Feel free to send a message, to see if we will be a good fit!

Hi, my name is Sarah Hoffman, and I’m a licensed counselor in Houston, TX. I help anxious and overwhelmed students struggling with the stress of school and daily life find ways to take control of their lives and feel better. I help my clients better understand themselves and their minds, harness their strengths, and embrace their full selves so they can live the life they want. I’m an affirming therapist and have extensive experience supporting students who identify as neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+, transgender, gender expansive, BIPOC, migrant/immigrant/child of immigrants, or who had a multicultural upbringing. I will celebrate, support, honor, and work to understand all parts of you, including your cultures, values, beliefs, and many identities. It’s important you feel safe to bring your full self into our sessions. My specialties include ADHD, neurodivergence, anxiety, stress, and overwhelm. Sometimes, life feels like an endless battle and a constant game of catch-up that leaves you feeling drained and overwhelmed. Some days, even the simple act of getting out of bed might feel impossible as you struggle to keep track of everything on your ever-growing to-do list. It feels like you're always running late, forgetting important things, and it's hard to concentrate on anything. Even though people around you might think you're doing okay because you hide how you feel and put on a brave face, the truth is that inside, you feel like you're falling apart. Life feels confusing and overwhelming. I understand how the pressure to succeed and the fear of messing up and failing can be paralyzing and suffocating. It’s draining to feel like you’re always on edge. You want to enjoy your life and have a chance to catch your breath. You’re starting to realize that maybe this isn’t how everyone feels, and you want to find a way to feel better. I know how hard it is to figure out how to balance the responsibilities and expectations of life. I get what it's like to feel different, and that life is more challenging for you than for others without knowing why. I understand the exhaustion of figuring out who you are and where you fit in the world. From personal experience, I also know how much it helps to work with an affirming and supportive counselor when you're struggling. Counseling is an investment in yourself. To get the most from your counseling sessions, you need a counselor you trust, who works to understand you, and has the training to help you reach your counseling goals. I worked in education for many years, both as a teacher and school counselor, and I understand the pressure of balancing school, family, friends, extracurriculars, work, and life. Working so hard to stay on top of everything is tiring. I became a licensed counselor because I wanted to help students reduce their feelings of stress and anxiety and find joy and peace in the chaos of everyday life. I firmly believe that everyone deserves access to the tools, knowledge, and self-understanding needed to live a meaningful and choice-filled life. Everyone deserves support navigating life’s challenges. My approach combines strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. During our counseling sessions, I’ll provide you with personalized tools and strategies to help you take control of your life and handle life’s daily challenges with ease. When you better understand yourself and how your mind works, you can finally let go of the feeling you're not measuring up and start waking up feeling confident and energized for the day. Through our work together in counseling, you can start to change how you view yourself and shed the weight of your worries. When you better understand yourself and how your mind works, you can finally let go of that feeling that you're not measuring up. If at any point, you find our counseling sessions aren't working, I'll adjust my approach or help connect you with appropriate referrals. Your comfort and progress are my top priorities in counseling. I want to help you trade stress for a more fulfilling life and find your genuine smile. To learn more about working with me, you can visit my website and reach out to schedule your free 15-minute phone consultation. During this call, I'll let you know how I can help, or I'll do my best to connect you with someone who can. I want to help you stop feeling anxious and overwhelmed and start finding balance and joy in your life.

I am a queer trans non-binary therapist and expressive arts therapist. My focus is providing individual therapy for LGBTQIA+ adults, women, and non-monogamous and polyamorous people. I specialize in working with trans and non-binary folks and people navigating relationships, building confidence, or wanting to engage the arts as part of therapy. I strive to create an environment where you can be yourself, feel comfortable exploring your experience and taking risks, and take steps towards what’s important to you. I am social justice oriented, neurodiversity-affirming, and work from a trauma-informed perspective. I am able to see clients in both Washington and Texas, and practice under the supervision of Candice Holloway, LPC-S and Breona Mendoza, LMHC. As expressive arts therapist, I often bring play and creative expression into therapy. This could include anything from creating a D&D character who represents part of your experience, to making a music playlist, to integrating visual art, movement, music, writing, or role-playing into our work. As a therapist, I am warm, engaged, and curious. You deserve a therapist that gets you – it’s important to me to take time to get to know you. I cheer you on and see myself as a facilitator and collaborator as you work towards your goals. As a human, I love camping, attending queer and sex-positive events, finding dogs, and trying new gluten free recipes.

Do you ever feel like no matter how hard you try, you are unable to see yourself as more than a body? That diet culture is so deeply ingrained in our society that it feels impossible to escape? You are not alone. We live in a world that has convinced us that pursuing an unrealistic thin ideal is the key to happiness. That if we "work hard enough," that void we constantly feel, will eventually go away. That's why my goal is to help you reach a place of acceptance so that you can experience a more fulfilling life, free from diet culture and the toxicity that ensues. I specialize in treating children (as young as 10), adolescents, and adults struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating, body dysmorphia, and other related disorders. As a bilingual therapist, I am able to conduct therapy sessions in Spanish. While my primary specialty is eating disorders, I also help individuals better cope with anxiety, manage life transitions, and develop a healthier sense of self. I believe that in order to fully heal, we must get to the root cause - exploring childhood trauma and interpersonal relationships is a big part of the work I do with my clients.

Victoria Duru is a board-certified nurse practitioner in psychiatry and family medicine who started her career as a young staff nurse over 15 years ago and worked her way up. She received her Master’s of Science in Nursing from Walden University in Minnesota, Minneapolis. After graduating she worked at a Correctional facility in Houston, TX. Her experience demonstrated the gap between medical and psychiatric care, and how the mind/body connection is often overlooked. The gap in care motivated Victoria to pursue a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner certificate at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley so that she can develop a practice that integrates medicine and mental health for the most effective treatment.

Howdy! My name is A.B. and I’m a queer, nonbinary therapist born and raised right here in Texas. Don’t let the folksy exterior fool you: growing up in a small town taught me to treat strangers like family, to uplift and respect the folks around me, and, as my granddad always said, “If you can help ’em, then help ’em.” I’ve brought those values into my therapy work and left the bigotry and systemic oppression behind like the hogwash it is. I practice from a place of cultural humility, guided by the stories, strengths, and values my clients bring to the table. You’re the expert on your life, I’m just here to walk alongside you, bringing the tools I’ve got in my toolbelt to help you navigate whatever’s weighing you down. There’s nothing too big we can’t face together, and I trust that with you in the lead, we can work toward the outcomes you’re hoping for in therapy. I specialize in supporting clients through trauma, grief, mood disorders, LGBTQ+ issues, neurodivergence, identity exploration, crisis recovery, and relationship challenges. I also love working with children and their families around emotional regulation, school and family stress, and communication. I’ve got a soft spot for neurodivergent kids (and adults!) and bring a lot of energy and creativity into that work. In session, I pull from a variety of therapeutic approaches, including CBT, DBT, ACT, solution-focused, narrative, and collaborative therapies, plus a lot more. So don’t be surprised if I throw in a little art-making, somatic work, or IFS (parts work) now and then. I’m committed to being a lifelong learner, and if something isn’t clicking, I’ll work with you to find what does. I earned my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Sam Houston State University in 2023, and before that, I got my B.A. in Theatre Education. So I’m definitely open to getting creative in sessions, though just plain talkin’ is great, too. Outside of therapy, I love baking, storytelling in all its forms (theatre, concerts, poetry slams, and tabletop RPGs), and learning about folks whose lives are different from mine. I also enjoy spending time with my partner and our beloved pets Pip, Charlie, and Winston. If you think I might be the right counselor for you, I’d be honored to meet you. Feel free to email me at ab@vadacounseling.com or schedule a free consultation online.

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Dallas, TX

I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). I obtained both my Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas at Tyler. I have over 11 years of experience in nursing working in various fields and with a variety of patient populations. I have experience working with patients needing mental health services both inpatient and outpatient. I am dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with mental health concerns by increasing access to those needing mental health treatment while providing support, compassion, and understanding. I am here for the patient and want to ensure that all his or her needs are met. I have a passion for working in mental health services and genuinely care about each individual. I listen to his or her concerns and history to develop a diagnosis and formulate a treatment plan with the patient. The patients preferences and needs will lead the treatment approach initially and going forward. I include the patient in all aspects of care. Listening to his or her concerns, symptoms, and history is an important starting point in developing a diagnosis. The diagnosis is thoroughly discussed with the patient and I will answer any questions that present. Following the diagnosis, a plan of care is developed with the patients input. Patient preferences for therapy, medication, or both, are included in the treatment plan, and any referrals necessary will be made. Medication, if necessary and agreed upon, will be called in to the patients preferred pharmacy and any remaining questions or concerns will be addressed. A follow-up visit to assess ongoing effectiveness of the treatment plan will be made. At consecutive appointments, any necessary changes to the treatment plan will be made. However, I am available for concerns, questions, or needs that may arise prior to follow-up visits when needed.
