There are 6 therapists including myself in the practice. We are all different in our approaches and areas of expertise. Our fees are flexible, as are our hours. We are offering in-person sessions. All of us have worked with students since the start of our careers. In fact women roughly ages 18-25 is our favorite population to work with. We believe the fit between client and therapist is the most important aspect of therapy. You feeling listened to, not judged and that we are focused on helping you is our goal.

Through careful listening and an empathic, honest approach I can help you feel better about yourself and your life. You may feel stuck in a job or relationship, or overly stressed with the demands of school. You may want more from life but not know how to get it. You may be struggling with with the difficulties of parenthood or marriage. I can help with artistic, creative, or intellectual struggles, body issues, sexual problems, substance issues, imbalances of life and work, impulse control, past trauma, or even just a general lack of inspiration or motivation in life. The goal is always to feel better about love and work. I welcome adult individuals and adolescents into my practice, with a focus on college students. My work is psychoanalytically informed but pragmatic, and it is important to me to get to know my patients well and to spend time working collaboratively through their needs. I hold master's and doctorate degrees in clinical psychology from The Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA and completed my psychoanalytic training at the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research in New York. My private practice office is located in Union Square in Manhattan, and in the coming months I'll be opening an office in the Hudson Valley area of upstate New York.

Coming Out - Gay Issues - Sex Issues - Sexuality - Sexual addiction/compulsion - Gender - Anxiety - Depression - Past Trauma - Fears Phobias - Self-Esteem - Relationship and Family - Male survivors of sexual abuse - Open relationships - Intimacy - Loneliness - HIV - OCD - Grief/Loss therapy - Cognitive behavioral therapy. When facing life's difficult challenges, it is good to know that there are places that you can turn to for help and guidance. However, finding a gay therapist can be anxiety producing because when people decide they would benefit from seeing a therapist, they are often experiencing significant upset in their lives. This is usually not the ideal moment to be dealing with the stress involved in finding someone with whom it feels safe and right to be vulnerable. I am aware of this and I want you to know that when we meet you will find yourself in a comfortable setting where you will be able to tell your story in strict confidence and without the worries of judgment or pressure of any type. We will discuss what you are interested in working on and how I will be able to help you. There will be no pressure to make any decisions or commitments. . I believe that therapy is a tool for fixing interpersonal problems, helping with painful life situations, tackling the "tough stuff", helping fine tune relationships, and getting back on the road to success in life. Sometimes things don't quite work out as planned and a time of transition can become a major life challenge. My role is to help identify the most difficult parts of this change and to support you so you can move into these new phases with greater support and confidence.” I have over twenty years of multifaceted clinical experience working successfully with clients of different age, gender, religion, culture and personality. My therapeutic experience with clients includes a broad range of issues including depression, mood disorders, past trauma, anxiety, stress grief, loss, intimacy, communication skills, self-esteem and body image, personal growth and life transitions. My treatment goal My focus is to help individuals heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths. Reducing pain, shame and increase self-steam is an important component of treatment. I achieve these long lasting changes by providing a neutral safe space, listening to your concerns and customizing a treatment plan.

“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” – Viktor E. Frankl One of the greatest gifts we can grant ourselves is the gift of inner peace. While we may not have control over our environment, situations, or the actions of others, we do have the power to control our thoughts, beliefs, and actions. As a therapist-in-training, I am dedicated to helping clients identify and understand the connections between their thoughts, beliefs, actions, and the decisions that shape their daily experiences. My goal is to help you turn life's lemons into lemonade. We all encounter challenging experiences, and I understand the importance of having a robust support system, combined with the right resources, time, and commitment. My aim is to ensure you feel safe, understood, validated, empowered, and supported throughout our sessions. Together, we will explore various therapeutic interventions to identify the best fit for your individual situation. I am currently a second-year graduate student at UMGC/Salisbury-Global Campus, pursuing a master’s degree in Social Work. My experience includes working with wounded warriors and NATO allies stationed overseas, addressing issues such as depression, PTSD, anxiety, substance abuse, separation anxiety, and identity struggles. I work with students who need more or different support than they are able to access on-campus. You may be looking for long-term therapy or for a therapist who specializes in working with people like you. I am trained in several types of therapy (ACT, DBT, relational, multicultural-feminist) and apply them flexibly based on what you need. Students who work with me are often looking for longer-term therapy, where we address deeper issues in a safe relationship, at your own pace. Others are seeking individual therapy that makes room for activism and the big problems of our time. We may be a good fit for therapy together if you are coping with a difficult family, relationship trouble, recurrent mental health problems (e.g. BPD, PTSD, MDD, GAD), or a life transition (e.g. grief, divorce, pregnancy, moving, spiritual/religious crisis). I also have particular experience working with medical students. Finally, I am a climate-aware and social justice-focused therapist; this means your experience with collective problems like white supremacy and the climate crisis is a welcome, respected, and important part of therapy. I don't take insurance, but I offer sliding scale fees based on financial need. Please reach out to me for a 15-minute phone call to see what might be possible in our work together!

You might look like you have things together on the outside—but internally, you’re dealing with anxiety, overthinking, and feeling like everyone else has it figured out except you. Sound familiar? College can be a time of growth and excitement, but I know it can also feel overwhelming and isolating, too. I work with college students who are dealing with anxiety, stress, relationship drama, and that constant “what am I doing with my life?” feeling. I’m not a “sit in silence” therapist; I take an active and collaborative approach, which means I’ll ask questions, give feedback, and help you actually make sense of what’s going on (and what to do about it). I'll give you practical tools you can actually use in your day-to-day life, and together we’ll work on building confidence and setting boundaries so you can work towards feeling more like yourself and less "stuck" in patterns that aren't serving you. If you’re ready for therapy that feels real, supportive, and actually helpful, let’s connect.

I believe that healing and growth happen when one is truly heard. As a therapist, I strive to provide a safe and nonjudgmental space to support this process and help you move past fears and obstacles that may be getting in the way of your success and happiness. I specialize in helping adults navigate life transitions as well as stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma related to issues of identity, self-esteem, relationships, school, and career. Together, we’ll work towards goals such as deepening self-awareness, overcoming unhelpful patterns, learning effective coping methods, cultivating self-acceptance, and building emotional resilience. I am particularly interested in working with diverse populations, including 1.5 and 2nd generation Asian Americans, BIPOC, and expats. As a native New Yorker and second generation Taiwanese-American, I’m especially attuned to issues of belonging and marginalization, and the complexities that arise from navigating intersecting identities and conflicting expectations, wants, and needs. In addition to being trained and licensed as a mental health counselor (LMHC), I have completed post-graduate work in psychodynamic therapy at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Somatic Experiencing®, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR). Prior to practicing therapy, I worked in advertising and marketing. I have found that my own winding path has given me a unique perspective and ability to connect with a variety of individuals and their struggles. If any of this resonates with you, I invite you to schedule a complimentary video consultation and take the first step towards feeling better. I would be honored to help you reshape your life story to create more balance, meaning, and fulfillment. www.dianaliao.com @therapywithdiana
