Welcome! I’m Dr. Constance Zou, and I’m honored to be a part of your journey towards mental well-being. My academic and professional path has been dedicated to understanding and treating a wide range of mental health challenges. I graduated summa cum laude from Columbia University with a BA in Biology and earned an MA in Bioethics from New York University. I received my MD from Yale School of Medicine and completed my general psychiatry residency at the National Institute of Mental Health, where I also completed a clinical fellowship focused on studying the connections between hormones and mood. My extensive training has equipped me to effectively treat conditions such as depression, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, trauma, women’s reproductive mental health, and sleep-related issues. I utilize both psychoanalytic and cognitive-based psychotherapy modalities to provide personalized care tailored to your unique needs. With over a decade of continuous engagement in medical research, I am passionate about delivering evidence based care and advancing the field of psychiatry. Part of my previous work highlighted biases and inaccuracies in the publication of clinical trials by pharmaceutical companies, emphasizing the importance of informed and safe treatment choices. At our practice, you will find a compassionate and knowledgeable partner in your mental health journey. Together, we will work towards achieving your personal goals and enhancing your overall well-being.

I offer virtual, individual psychotherapy to clients located in Washington DC, Virginia, and Florida. All sessions are individually tailored to not only help you gain skills to relieve your symptoms, but also to develop insight into unhelpful patterns, so you can live a more fulfilling and peaceful life that aligns with your values. I am an intentional integrationist, which is a fancy way of saying I am trained in many therapeutic approaches to help you based on your needs, experiences, preferences, and style of learning. This allows me to offer a tailored approach that is just right for you. Often, clients don’t know exactly what they want or need from a therapist. I listen closely to how you describe the concerns bringing you to therapy, what you’ve tried, what you want to change about your life, and when you are at your best—all to determine the optimal approach to treatment. My experience with myriad interventions allows me to be highly flexible and pivot quickly based on your ongoing feedback. You can expect us to continually explore what is working well, how we are tracking toward your goals, and what, if anything, you want to change to optimize what you're getting from therapy. I see clients as the “pilot” of the metaphorical journey of therapy, and myself as an expert co-pilot and navigator. You decide where we go, our speed, and when to “refuel,” while I help provide the most efficient way to reach your chosen destination. Sometimes clients change their mind about their destination mid-journey. That’s okay! I am right there to help us change course smoothly. My goal is to help you to feel heard, empowered, supported, and above all to feel better. My technical approach to therapy is informed by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), as well as relational and psychodynamic models of therapy. As a clinical social worker, my therapeutic style is client-centered, trauma-informed, and is guided by the multicultural, strengths, and person-in-environment perspectives. Regardless of the customized treatment plan I employ, building and tending to a trusting therapeutic relationship with you is at the heart of what I do. In every session, you can expect a warm, collaborative, inclusive approach that honors your lived experiences, embraces your strengths, and is identity-affirming for clients of all backgrounds. I’m honored you’re considering me as a partner on your wellness journey. If you’re ready to take the first step toward positive change, email me today to schedule a free 15-30 minute consultation to see if I’m a good fit to be your therapist. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

My choice to enter the field of nutrition originates from my personal journey of overcoming struggles with food and my commitment to challenging and deconstructing diet culture. I have worked in various levels of care for eating disorder recovery as a dietitian and clinical director. I grew up in rural Virginia and still get excited that I live close to a Target these days. When I am not seeing clients you can find me watching BRAVO TV, reading my Kindle, and going out for sushi. Philosophy & Approach: I use a Health at Every Size® (HAES) and Intuitive Eating framework. I founded Embrace Nutrition with the purpose of individuals having a safe and non-judgmental space to develop healthier relationships with food & their natural body size. Do you have a sense that people don’t get you? Do you travel a different path than everybody else? Are you living your life very differently from what other people expect you to? Do people tell you that sometimes you are thinking way outside the box? Are your parents different from you and do they want you to be someone else? Life can be tough when you feel different. Different can also mean isolated, lonely, and misunderstood. It can also mean constantly asking yourself: Will I ever fit in? Can anybody understand me? Why can’t people accept me for who I am? Am I doing the right thing? Will I be happy? That’s what I can help you with. BE DIFFERENT AND STILL FIT IN. The therapist-client relationship is a collaborative one, where you are an expert on yourself and we work together towards your goals. I believe that you should be satisfied with the services you are receiving and thus I frequently assess the clients' progress and satisfaction with my services during the duration of therapy. I strive to tailor therapy to best fit your needs. My approach to working with clients is practical and straightforward, yet warm, genuine, and supportive.

Life Transition Counseling and Therapy: 25+ Years Experience Asian American Psychotherapist, LICSW Adjunct Professor at Boston College In Person in Brookline and Harvard Square and Virtually I work with people who have spent much of their lives managing expectations, carrying responsibility, and doing what they are supposed to do. When a major change occurs, the ways they've always navigated life may no longer fit. Together, we make sense of what you're experiencing, understand what's keeping you stuck, and figure out what comes next. I combine clinical support with practical tools to help you: Understand your emotions: Learn to relate to what you're feeling rather than ignoring, avoiding, or fighting it. Clarify your values: Identify what truly matters to you—not just what is expected of you. Reduce symptoms: Address any stress, anxiety, depression, or burnout you may be experiencing and develop skills to manage it. Build confidence: Gain the inner-strength and resilience to step forward into action.

School can be some of the most rewarding years of your life but they can also be overwhelming. Between classes, internships, work, relationships, family expectations, finances, and figuring out who you are and where you're headed, sometimes it's good to have some extra support. Therapy gives you a place to talk openly about what's going on, without judgment. Whether you're feeling anxious, stressed, burned out, stuck, lonely, or simply trying to make sense of a major life transition, you don't have to navigate it alone. I work with college and graduate students on concerns such as anxiety, self-esteem, relationships, identity exploration, gender identity, academic stress, life transitions, binge eating, and body image. Many of my clients are also learning how to manage life on their own for the first time and are discovering that no one ever really taught them how to handle the emotional side of money. As a Certified Financial Social Worker, I can help you develop a healthier relationship with money, spending, debt, budgeting, and financial decision-making. Together, we can explore both the practical and emotional aspects of financial wellness so you feel more confident and in control. My style is warm, supportive, and down-to-earth. I'll meet you where you are, help you build on your strengths, and offer practical tools along the way. If you're curious about working together, I'd be happy to schedule a free 15-minute consultation to see if we're a good fit.
